Me and a proper coder at work looked at that code, and it looks good to us.
Thing is:
The objects from maya end up facing the same direction in Unity when I import them, and drag it into the scene (They're children of the same object. I can separate them when I try this tomorrow).
This makes sense as they're both exported at 0 rotation on every axis (I freeze rotations before I export).
So what I don't understand is that the chest and it's lid end up facing at 90º different angles once I attach bone followers to them.
Of note: I get the same result if I have my 3D objects as children of the Spine object, and if I let them be siblings.
My guess now is that the fact that the second spine bone (+follower) is a child of the first spine bone (+follower) - somehow affects the "Up axis" rotation.
Could that be?
Thanks for any help.
I'll report back once I separately exported the objects in the morning 🙂

Fixed!
Separately exporting the objects helped.
I have no clue why, but it did.
Now I'll try to get the 3D object to play nice in the sorting layer 🙂
